Open Access Ramps
The Building Code of Australia requires open access ramps or balconies for fire-isolated exits to be constructed in a specific way. Open access ramps or balconies for fire-isolated exits will be nominated by the building surveyor/building certifier in the essential safety measures schedule/ determination.

In Part E2 Smoke Hazard Management, Table E2.2a General Provisions, sets out the provisions for smoke hazard management. Where open access ramps or balconies are provided to meet these requirements it must have ventilation openings that are unobstructed, evenly spaced and side enclosures have specific dimensional conditions.
