QLD – Emergency Plan was requested by a client to prepare evacuation signs under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 (BFSR) for a new apartment complex. The Building Fire Safety Regulation requires building owners, property and body corporate managers to provide in each facility Evacuation Coordination Procedures (Emergency Response Procedures) to be retained on site in hardcopy with other fire safety documentation including the Fire & Evacuation Plan (Emergency Plan) and Evacuation Signs (Evacuation Diagrams).

The client requested the Evacuation Coordination Procedures (Emergency Response Procedures) which includes evacuation signs (evacuation diagrams) to be provided in landscape style. The following evacuation sign (evacuation diagram) depicts the required BFSR information that is required to be shown in the public area, along with the escape path.

(Note:  Various symbols and indicators on evacuation signs under the BFSR and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service vary to those nominated in AS 3745-2010 ‘Planning for emergencies in facilities’. If the client requested dual compliance with BFSR and AS 3745-2010, then the BFSR symbols would take precedence and then followed by AS 3745-2010 for the symbols – indicators not included in the BFSR).
