Scope of work: Restoration and reuse of heritage listed Female Orphan School.
Stage 1 – Restoration of the Central wing which included restoration of the building’s stone and brick exterior, flooring and central stairwell. Unsympathetic additions to the exterior of the building were removed, while the verandas that ran along the building’s northern facade were reconstructed. Works completed in 2003.
Stage 2 – West wing of the building, completed in 2011. The Margaret Whitlam Galleries were established. The ground floor of this wing is now used for seminars, concerts, large meetings, and other events.
Stage 3 – East Wing and further work to the Central and West Wings to enhance their amenity.
