Sustainability

The Hendry Group seek to reduce the impact of its daily choices in going about its work. We are developing a long term commitment to the integration of sustainable business principles and practices whilst meeting the needs of the present without impacting on the needs of future generations.

Daily actions of staff will contribute to the success of this policy. All new staff are educated on sustainability matters. The initiatives of individuals are essential to the success of the policy.

Our General Manager has been nominated as the Sustainability Coordinator for the Hendry Group to emphasise the commitment to the policy. The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for implementing policy, organising training for all employees and maintaining awareness of the importance of the policy. Hendry Group regularly re-evaluates its current practices, encourages all staff to develop ideas of improving performance, and motivates staff to move towards sustainable practices.

Considerations in achieving best sustainable practices are made in the purchase of supplies, equipment and services. Examples of these criteria are: recyclability, biodegradability, recycled content, waste minimisation, hazardous-chemical free, energy and resource conservation and locally manufactured.

Our initiatives include:

  • Endeavour to minimise the use of paper in data storage, printing and copying, internal communication, external correspondence and mailing. Establish processes to minimise non-recyclable supplies and to implement recyclable alternatives.
  • Energy conservation and efficiency in heating and cooling, lighting, and equipment is encouraged. Implementation of a national program of sustainable initiatives across the Group in key resource areas including: energy, water and waste;
  • More efficient forms and alternative forms of travel are encouraged, like: fuel efficient car purchases, more appropriate driving practices, car pooling, use of public transport, cycling and utilisation of teleconferencing facilities.
  • Improvements to office facilities will use materials that are the most natural, the least hazardous, have a high recyclable, recycled or biodegradable content, are sustainable and durable.
  • Where practical, benchmarks are established that can measure paper use, recycled supplies, quantity of office waste recyclable and energy used. This will be reported regularly.
