AUST – Emergency Plan was recently commissioned by a property manager to prepare the necessary emergency plan and evacuation diagrams (evacuation signs) under AS 3745-2010 ‘Planning for emergencies in facilities’ for an existing multi-level office building. The building contained various tenancies, some occupying the whole floor (shown below) others having multiple tenants.Emergency Planning Committee: Develop Emergency Plan, Emergency Response Procedures, Evacuation Diagrams, Emergency Response Training                                                                                                                      The building had a number of superseded emergency procedures and evacuation diagrams (evacuation signs) that did not comply with the new provisions of AS 3745-2010. Minor building works under a building approval had also occurred that required the evacuation diagrams to be updated. AS 3745 now requires the Emergency Planning Committee to nominate a validation date for the evacuation diagrams (that is, the date upon which the evacuation diagrams must be re-assessed against potential changes that have occurred to the building or AS 3745-2010). The Emergency Planning Committee in this instance chose 12 months.

Building owners and tenants should realise that any building works occurring in the building that offsets the information contained on the evacuation diagram, requires the evacuation diagram or emergency procedures to be upgraded and re-issued expeditiously.
