New evacuation coordination procedures were prepared in accordance with the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 (BFSR) AS 3745-2010 ‘Planning for emergencies in facilities’ now requires the Emergency Planning Committee to nominate a validation date for the evacuation signs (that is, the date upon which the evacuation signs must be re-assessed against potential changes that have occurred to the building or AS 3745-2010).
Those responsible for the safety of the occupants must realise that any building works occurring in the building under a building approval that affects the information contained on the evacuation signs requires the evacuation signs to be amended and re-issued expeditiously.
The BFSR requires building owners, property and corporation managers to provide in each facility an Evacuation Coordination Procedures (Emergency Response Procedures) to be retained on site in hard copy with other fire safety documentation including the Fire and Evacuation Plan (Emergency Plan) and evacuation signs or evacuation diagrams for review by the Fire Safety Advisor.
The client requested the evacuation signs to be provided in A3 size and in landscape presentation, an example of which follows:
(Note: that various symbols and indicators in evacuation signs under the BFSR and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) vary to those nominated in AS 3745-2010 ‘Planning for emergencies in facilities’. If the client requested dual compliance with BFSR and AS 3745-2010, then the BFSR symbols would take precedence and then followed by AS 3745-2010 for the symbols – indicators not included in the BFSR).
