AUST – Emergency Plan advises building owners and managers should make themselves aware of AS 3745 – 2010 Planning for emergencies in facilities, especially the area of evacuation diagrams and the symbols nominated to be used.
AS 3745-2010 specifies minimum size and content for evacuation diagrams, in particular Figure E3 Examples of Symbols Used in Evacuation Diagrams and Evacuation Signs. Building owners and managers should be aware that alterations to their building more than likely will necessitate the evacuation diagrams (evacuation signs) requiring to be updated. Any alterations to evacuation diagrams must be in accordance with the symbols shown below.

(Note: Various symbols and indicators on evacuation signs under the Building Fire Safety Regulations and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service vary to those nominated in AS 3745-2010 ‘Planning for emergencies in facilities’. If requested dual compliance with BFSR and AS 3745-2010, then BFSR symbols would take precedence and then followed by AS 3745-2010 for the symbols – indicators not included in the BFSR).
