AUST – HENDRY disability access consultants advise that the 2012 edition of the Building Code of Australia was adopted by the Commonwealth, States and Territories on the 1 May 2012. It has now been a whole year since the Access Code was incorporated into the BCA 2011 as part of the National Construction Code (NCC) through amendments to the Building Acts and Building Regulations.

HENDRY advises that there have been no changes to the Access Code provisions in the new BCA 2012 edition. The only significant change in Section D of the BCA 2012 include revised provisions for the installation of handrails within sole occupancy units in a class 2 or 3 building or class 4 part aimed at reducing slips, trips and falls.
