AUST – Essential Property Services advises that the Building Code of Australia requires all swimming pools in Class 2 and 3 buildings and Class 4 part of a building to be provided with swimming pool safety fencing (essential safety measures). A building surveyor/ certifier would nominate swimming pool safety fencing in the building’s essential safety measures determination/ schedule.
Building Code of Australia
Part G1 Minor Structures and Components, specify in clause G1.1 Swimming pools criteria relative to the installation of swimming pool safety fencing. This clause requires swimming pool safety fencing to comply with AS 1926.1-2007 Swimming pool safety – Safety barriers for swimming pools, and AS 1926.2-2007 Swimming pool safety – Location of safety barriers for swimming pools.
The following part extract of clause I1.1 Safety Measures covers swimming pool safety fencing:

Essential Safety Measures Audit
A lot of municipal councils are active in inspecting swimming pool safety fencing. An essential safety measures auditor must be conversant with AS 1926.1 and 2 and note any defects during an inspection in the building’s essential safety measures logbook.
